This is a listing of events in our area.   If you are not local many  of the national chains will have similar events so check out your local store.  The events are listed by location, not by date.  If there is a location not on this list that you would like to see added please let us know.  Don’t forget to join our Facebook group if you are in the southern NY, CT, NJ!

Free Crafts for kids the first Saturday of every month  9 am – 12 pm.  You get the craft kit, apron, pin and certificate while supplies last.  They fill up very quickly so going earlier is better.

April 1st Build a Bunny Basket

Wave Hill West 249th Street and Independence Avenue (Front Gate) Bronx, NY 10471-2899 

Free admission to the grounds before 12 pm.  Free parking if you park down the hill and take the shuttle up or walk up (it is a very big hill, but doable).  They have a story that they read you first and then you go into the art room and they have all the supplies for you to make the craft.  You can roam the grounds after wards.  Bring a lunch.

Stepping Stones Children’s Museum

Regular admission is $15 dollars for adults and $15 children over 1.

April 6 5-8:30 pm the museum stays open late for free admission.  Zelday the Zany Owl – Mother Goose is on the loose today with her friend Buttercup and her basket full of classic nursery rhymes, songs and games.

April 8   FREE ALL DAY for families of Special Needs Children

Discounted admission for families of children with special needs. Enjoy the museum’s engaging exhibits, mingle with other families and learn with your child in a safe, welcoming, ADA compliant environment. An Open Arms program. Learn More

Families may enter for free at any time between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.

This event is open to all special needs families, no registration is needed.

New York Botanical Gardens

Tuesday thru Friday Admission Adults $20 children 2-12 $8

Holidays, Saturday, Sunday and Monday Admission Adults $25 children 2-12 $10

There are no free events.  If you are a NYC resident you can get in for a little less.

Spring Fun – Everette’s Children’s Garden 3/21/2017 – 4/21/2017.

Watch the Garden’s plants and animals wake up from winter with buds bursting, birds nesting, and seeds sprouting. Investigate the ways that nature signals spring and help our feathered friends build their nests with special nesting bags to take back to your neighborhood.

Dig! Plant! Grow! Wake Up Garden! Ruth Rae Howell Family Garden 4/1/2017 -4/30/2017

Celebrate spring in the Family Garden! Get started gardening by sowing seeds, digging and watering. Explore our soil and learn more about compost with our wild, wiggly worms and take home your own worm castings to “get growing” at home.

 FAMILY NATURE ADVENTURES: NOT SO SCARY SNAKES

April 8 @ 11:00 am  Snakes are some of the most misunderstood creatures on the planet. Scary serpent or valuable predator? Slimy slitherer or rad reptile? Meet a few of Teatown’s snake ambassadors and make a snake finger puppet to take home.

April 10 @ 9:00 amApril 14 @ 3:00 pm  Spring is here – get your kids outdoors to see the day! The slugs, bugs and other critters are waking from their slumber. We’ll play games, make crafts and see what spring has to offer.

GREEN LIVING SERIES: SPIRIT OF STONE 101

April 18 @ 7:00 pm8:30 pm  Local resident and award-winning landscape designer, Jan Johnsen, showcases innovative ways that stone, the most ancient of materials, can be used to add dimension to an outdoor setting. She illustrates creative techniques for using natural stone in dry streams, stepping stone walks, knockout rock gardens, and much more.

SKULLS, SCAT AND SIGNS

Have you come across bones or scat on a hike and wondered which animal left it? Or found nibbled branches or tracks and tried to figure out who was there? Using Teatown’s collection of skulls, scat and signs we’ll investigate the trail left behind.

BIRDING HOT SPOT: CENTRAL PARK

Join Charlie Roberto in one of the best places to see many species of warblers and other migrants. Meet in the Teatown parking lot to carpool at 6am or at 7:15am at Central Park West and 77th st.

APRIL SHOWERS

April 29 @ 1:00 pm2:00 pm  Everyone can finish the rhyme April showers… but that is only a part of the water cycle which all of life depends on. Hands on activities to brighten any showery day will have you singing in the rain!
