My favorite portraits of my boys are usually inspired by classic Children’s Books.  We bought our first set of studio and camera equipment for my niece’s first birthday party.  dsc_0188Her birthday theme was a children’s book costume party and she was the butterfly from A Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Xander was only two years old and we bought him his Max costume to represent Where the Wild Things Are.   He played the roll of Max for the next 10 months until the costume was way to small on him, and now it fits Brady.

This year I decided it was time for a new storybook theme.  So we created the Harold and the Purple Crayon inspired photoshoot. For this shoot I reseached and found Bradyn the perfect blue footed pajamas.

We then set Bradyn up on a white vinyl backdrop with a crayon, one of those crayons kids can use in the bathtub.  We gave him a purple one because he is fond of the book and he knows his colors… but the background was being edited out so it really didn’t matter which color he used.  He understood that he was playing the part of Harold and he really enjoyed this photo session and that doesn’t always happen.
